Praise for AFTER THE FIRE:

“This powerful, emotionally realistic book is the first of Shay's new series about the men and women who put their lives on the line every day and how that dedication and commitment affect all those around them. Poignant and compelling, this novel reinforces Shay's well-earned reputation as a first-rate storyteller.” Shelley Mosley, American Library Association.

  • Great

Good read and a fun book to read.
  • Great to honor first responders

    By 1Alannah
Hooray to Kathryn Shay for writing a book that honors first responders who put their lives on the line each day and for showing how their personal lives are affected due to the dangerous circumstances they must face. The men and women both were shown to be strong but with flaws. Romance still bloomed thru all the difficult situations.

This book is so good. Grabs you from start to finish. I didn't want to put it down. Ms. Shay does a wonderful job with her characters & story which are all filled with passion & so much emotion. You can tell she has done a lot of research about the fire department. I have read other stories written by Ms. Shay & always look forward to reading another story of hers when I am finished, she never disappoints.
  • Intense, emotional, sexy, down & dirty read!

Kathryn Shay has a wonderful way of writing. You are drawn into the story, emotions & plot line. The characters & scenes are believable & lifelike. Her intense research is shown throughout every scene. Yes there are some intense sex scenes but they show the intense emotions firefighters go through & how they relieve them. Yes, there is some explicit cussing but it is easy to read past it. I couldn't imagine this book written any differently. This book details the lives of the Malvaso family. Three of them, Mitch, Jenny & Zack, are members of the same firehouse. Their father was killed firefighting & they all followed in his tradition. For some reason, the other two kids, Paul & Connie have always kept themselves separate from the other 3. This book goes into their lives, their families, their failures & their future. There are a lot of twists & turns you aren't expecting. I personally enjoyed this book. I started reading it & didn't put it down until I finished it.

What a fantastic story! I loved it...there was not one slow or boring paragraph! I hated for it to end. I wanted to continue reading about their lives...the kids, babies, weddings. I'll look for them in other stories, I hope... Sue Bainter
