One of very few best series

I’m EXTREMELY picky about what’s good and what’s bad, but this it me exactly where the 1 of now 3 best series, and I have read 58. It’s good because books with guns are usually just “BAM, your dead,” and this book doesn’t have any, but then there are mythical creatures and magic, so worth reading
Pretty good book!

I though it was a good book! It did get a little boring in the middle how Ged (Duny), just kept looking for the shadow and it was pretty much the same thing the whole time until the end! If you’re one of those Harry Potter people who love waiting until the end for the big part, this is definitely your book to read! Also, if you’re one of those Percy Jackson book series kind of people who need action the whole time, this is also your book because there is just a hint of action in the beginning. I recommend this book for 8+. No curse words or anything like that, so, it’s a pretty good book. I’m gonna stop here before I spoil the book but here’s a hint. Is Ged the shadow? Does he have to take the spill and admit he’s part of the shadow, or is he nothing like it and has just made the biggest mistake of his life? Read to the end to find out!
It was so hard to read
It took me so long to read this book, and I honestly didn’t enjoy it.
Awful do not recommend at all
The first installment of one of Fantasy's greatest series.
I read some where about Le Guin’s “Earthsea” series so I figured give it a try.
On a basic level, “A Wizard of Earthsea” was a satisfying story - engaging, well paced and good character development of the hero Ged. So, I finished it at in a couple days which for me is a sign of a decent and enjoyable read.
On a deeper level, it didn’t have the richness of “Lord of the Rings” or the Narnia books. Many scenes came off as pastiches and many of the characters as one dimensional, both as mere props in Ged’s journey to discovery. Most of all, the ending was somewhat of a let down - I’ll leave it at that to avoid spoiling the story.
And interesting, while Le Guin makes it clear that her characters are people of color, its done very subtly. Using a buzz term du jour, it didn’t stop my own unconscious bias from imagining the characters as being at most Mediterranean or Arabic versus black or mulatto. Part of this may be that the so much of the fantasy genre in general, and even in Le Guin’s “Earthsea”, is so enwrapped in the Norse/Celtic motifs, its hard to break one’s mind from preconceived prejuidices.
The real question is - will I read the rest of the series?!
The Origin of Pixie Dust
What a scrumptious read. It's as if its a book about Gandaulf or even Merlin as pupils. Le Guin has certainly hooked me and makes me wonder why none of her books have been adapted. Perhaps our society is not ready for people of color to have agency with their magic.
As others pointed out, it cuts off abruptly three quarters of the way through. What the hell! How do I get my money back?
Good but expensive
The story is good. I'll give this series that much. But it's just so short. Most books I read from iTunes bookstore clock in around 2000-2500 pages (iPhone sized). This and the second book in the Earthsea series are around 350 pages. These are $8.99, my others I compared it to (stormlight archives) I believe were $9.99. I won't be buying anymore of these books unless I can get them for less than $4 because there's just so little in them.
