I’m Not Her Janet Gurtler Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

"For the first time in my life, I didn't feel envy…"

Tess is the exact opposite of her beautiful, athletic sister. And that's okay. Kristina is the sporty one, Tess is the smart one, and they each have their place. Until Kristina is diagnosed with cancer. Suddenly Tess is the center of the popular crowd, everyone eager for updates. There are senior boys flirting with her. But, the smiles of her picture perfect family are cracking and her sister could be dying. Now Tess has to fill a new role: the strong one. Because if she doesn't hold it together, who will?

Janet Gurtler tests the bonds of sisterhood in this moving debut that readers of Jodi Picoult and Sarah Dessen will savor.

  • Worth the read

I couldn’t put this book down. It’s emotional and heart wrenching, yet still manages to be amazing and relatable. It’s been a few years since I read it for the first time and I still find myself thinking about it quite often.
  • Tender tear jerker

Coming of age is tough in this family. Captain of the volleyball team struck by bone cancer shattering the semi-functional family and reshuffling the roles therein. Dealing with the turns of fate & crashes on senior while trying to be a normal kid.
  • Good and endearing

I think that this book shows another side to cancer. Instead of it being about the person who suffers from cancer, it shows how the people around the person are affected. Tess, as a character, is a bit rough around the edges. She took some getting used to. I feel that she didn't change too much over the course of the book. It would have been nice to see change. There were some issues with the medical information. Kristina simply walking out of a hospital would go against all protocol in a hospital. There were other small issues about medical. Interesting take on cancer.

I thought this was an amazing book! It was sad and happy at the same time. But I thought that the ending was a little incomplete, I wish it would keep going

This book is great!! She needs to make another one... I'm not a person that usually likes books, but I really like this one. I even did a book report on it for my 10th grade English class
  • Tearjerking Magnificence

This amazing book is so insightful and makes you feel as I you are the one who has the experiences. If you've read The Fault In Our Stars by John Greene then imagine a book that is almost on that level. This book is extraordinary, in fact it is so extraordinary that I read it in its entirety in 5 hours. I could not put it down.

I rarely write a review but I felt this book deserved a written review. This book was touching and well written. I didn't want to put it down. I went along for the emotional roller coaster ride from beginning to end. Definitely a book to recommend.
  • Intriguing end twist

This was a nice quick read. It had a compelling plot and exciting love triangle, but I kind of felt like it was missing something at the end. I want to know more about her sister and how she adjusts to a new life. Also, I feel like the main character doesn't have very strong feelings toward the love interests. I wish I knew what it was she liked about Clark other than just being comfortable. I understand it was more about the relationship with her sister, but it would be nice to tie up some loose ends. Overall, it was pretty good.
