Wonderful read, couldn't put it down. I loved the cultural references which reminded me of how important foreign influences were in England a thousand years ago. I can't wait to read the next in the 1066 series. My only criticism is that I find the title of the book to be embarrassing.

Captivating. Keeps me up hours into the night. I feel completely transported to a different time and am inspired by the main character. The account of a young girl, Emma, given, by means of arranged marriage, the title of Queen. She suffered loss, neglect and abuse, and gained power and the respect of a nation along the way as she fulfilled her title. Emma's resiliency, determination, and astounding ability to not only hold her own, but command men- men of war, of violence, of murder- in an era where women were treated like lowly creatures, easily disposable, not worth more than a warm body to satisfy a mans cravings-on his terms-or a means to bear a son. Detailed, realistic, yet tasteful depictions of war and the battles for the title of King take you almost literally to the battlefield. I have enjoyed this book immensely. Halfway through I realized I never want the story to end. I am looking forward to reading more work by the author.
