The Giver Lois Lowry Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars
1994 Newbery Medal Winner
The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time. The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community. Lois Lowry has written three companion novels to The Giver, including Gathering Blue, Messenger, and Son.

User reviews about this book
It just wasnt my kind of taste in books.
I read this book in my 6th grade English class. The book was inappropriate and they were killing a baby.WHY WOULD YOU KILL A INNOCENT BABY? If you heard about this book don't read it you not missing anything
I loved this book. I realized how Jonas’s life changed. In the beginning it was a bit boring but as I kept reading it turned into a really great book.

Leaves you with questions at the end but great book nonetheless
Turns out great
i read this for school, but it turned out really good. the beginning was a bit boring but as i kept reading it became interesting and i noticed how Jonas’s character changed as i got more into the book. it’s an interesting dystopia, so read it and see what you think. this is one of those books when you either just don’t like it and think it’s boring, or those who get into it and end up enjoying it, and i gotta say i did. neat book.
An amazing book would make a great gift 🎁
ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ENDING
This book was ruined by the ending. Whatever anyone says, it’s pretty obvious that the main character dies at the very end. Which also means that the baby dies as well. WHY WOULD ANYONE WRITE A BOOK THAT ENDS LIKE THAT. When I first read this I was so mad by the ending that I went and burned the book.
Very good book that always makes you want to read more!
