The worldwide bestseller—now a major motion picture directed by Steven Spielberg.

In the year 2045, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines—puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them.

But when Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.

I think I’ve read this book 12 times in the last year. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of reading it. It ranks as one of my top ten for sure. It brought back lots of memories of growing up in the ‘80’s.

This is, without question, one of the most poorly written books I’ve ever read. There is constant repetition, timelines don’t make sense, any drama the author manages to come up with lasts less than a page and it’s right back to the shoehorned references. My god, the references. There is such a thing as too many. There is also such a thing as an editor, but apparently nobody bothered with that step. There’s also the gross part where the main character berates a girl trying to get away from him into maintaining their relationship. Such nice-guy fantasy nonsense. Lastly, the fact that of the roughly 137 million references the only reference to a female seems to be Princess Leia (no surprise there). I’m fairly certain this author has serious issues with women. Avoid this nonsense.

This is the first book I’ve read in 15 years or better. I will admit I was inspired by the amazing movie to read it after my 100th viewing. Even though the movie is amazing by all means this book is 1000 times better. I loved every second I read it. READ THIS BOOK!!!

Ernest Cline knocked this one out of the ballpark. The climax is action packed, the characters are relatable, the plot is unique and there’s some cheeky humor. And of course, there’s the thousands of 80’s references. Great read for teens and adults alike.
