The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Stieg Larsson Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The thrilling first book in the Millenium series featuring Lisbeth Salander: “Combine the chilly Swedish backdrop and moody psychodrama of a Bergman movie with the grisly pyrotechnics of a serial-killer thriller, then add an angry punk heroine and a down-on-his-luck investigative journalist, and you have the ingredients of Stieg Larsson’s first novel” (The New York Times).

Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden's wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

Less than 30 days, already done with book 5. Had the book a while and I guess timing was a factor for getting started. Haven’t been sucked in since Patricia Cornwell and John Sanford.

I’ve read the series of books several times over. I’ll never stop loving them, the first one the most!!

[no spoilers] The late author, Stieg Larsson, did an amazing job giving readers two main protagonists who had unique depth & illustrious backgrounds. Then, he managed to naturally get these two characters to work together to solve a realistic-complexed mystery, was all very impressive! I normally read to wind down for the night, so on average, 10-25 pages before going to bed. After I reached close to the middle of this book, I found myself reading the final 450 pages in a handful of hours.

I’m so surprised by the amount of people saying they couldn’t get through’s such an amazing read and really quite simple to get through if you have high school level intellect. Can’t wait to read the next one! Finished the book in three days.

  • Slow Starter

This book was a slow starter for me. I would read a number of pages and put it away because it just didn’t capture my interest. After knee replacement surgery I, AGAIN, began reading and this time things fell in place and I couldn’t put it down! I will have to read the next in the series.
