The Eye of the World Robert Jordan Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

The Wheel of Time is now an original series on Prime Video, starring Rosamund Pike as Moiraine!

The Eye of the World, the first novel in Robert Jordan's #1 New York Times bestselling epic fantasy series, The Wheel of Time®, follows Moiraine Damodred as she arrives in Emond's Field on a quest to find the one prophesized to stand against The Dark One.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

When a vicious band of half-men, half beasts invade the Two Rivers seeking their master’s enemy, Moiraine persuades Rand al’Thor and his friends to leave their home and enter a larger unimaginable world filled with dangers waiting in the shadows and in the light.

Since its debut in 1990, The Wheel of Time® has captivated millions of readers around the globe with its scope, originality, and compelling characters. The last six books in series were all instant #1 New York Times bestsellers, and The Eye of the World was named one of America's best-loved novels by PBS's The Great American Read.

  • Incredible book, more greatness to come

I have read dozens of other authors, listened to hundreds of hours of fantasy books, read thousands upon thousands of pages. None have gripped me like this book has. Nothing I have ever encountered compares to the scope and scale of this world. The history and lore is rich from the very beginning, the characters have very real motivations and flaws, and there is a fair bit of mystery and intrigue among the heroes of this tale. There isn’t a single character I don’t like, even the least-explored person feels like a solid addition to the story. Unfortunately, the book did start off a little slow, with difficult, often folksy, patterns of speech that tripped me up for the first ten or so chapters. That didn’t stop me from reading and enjoying them, but it did take some getting used to. Once you get familiar with the strange words, names and phrases there is nothing to stop you except your own desire to progress. I cannot wait to read the following books. 5 stars, would definitely recommend.

I read this book a few time as a child and a young man but this is the first time I have read it as an adult. Robert Jordan will forever be my favorite author. Such vivid imagery and depth. He was taken from us too soon and the world is a little darker without him.

Read this book something 15 years ago, then reread recently after being blown away by the Amazon Prime show. It really is an epic saga, I think I appreciate it even more now than in my teens.

I read this book when it first came out in 1990. Picked it up again since Prime Video is making a series. I wanted to be able to judge if they did it justice. Now I remember why I couldn’t wait every year for the next book to be published. I enjoyed this read even more than the first time. Guess I will be reading the other 12 books now as well.

The characters and writing are superb. I only wish Robert Jordan had lived to see his last book in print.
