A Dirty Job Christopher Moore Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars
Charlie Asher is a pretty normal guy with a normal life, married to a bright and pretty woman who actually loves him for his normalcy. They're even about to have their first child. Yes, Charlie's doing okay—until people start dropping dead around him, and everywhere he goes a dark presence whispers to him from under the streets. Charlie Asher, it seems, has been recruited for a new position: as Death.
It's a dirty job. But, hey! Somebody's gotta do it.

User reviews about this book
Do yourself a favor and skip this one. It has a really interesting premise but it’s totally ruined by some casual offensiveness. The “beta male mentality” is referenced repeatedly, the Russian nanny has an obsession with bears, the Chinese nanny steals the main character’s dead fish to fry up later, and Minty Fresh, the seven foot black man, is accused of pulling the race card for... talking black-er I think? At the first I thought I was just being overly sensitive, but as I kept ready it became clear that the author wasn’t going to aim any higher as far as the comedy went. To top all of that off, the book just isn’t super engrossing. There’s a lot of focus on making comedy instead of interesting characters. Too bad, I really wanted to like this one.
I love me some Christopher Moore!
What I love about a Moore story are the guaranteed laughs, heaping helpings of insanity, and too many lol moments to count. It always feels like I'm saying goodbye to a close friend when the story is over. This was no different.
A Dirty Job is an immersive experience filled with wonderful characters that not only made me smile, cringe, and want to barf, but also pulled on my heart strings as I frantically turned the pages all the way to the end.
Anyway, 5 stars, and two enthusiastic thumbs way up there!
A dirty job
Sorry it's finished. Thank goodness there's a sequel. Moved right into that one. Colorful characters, awesome story. I couldn't put it down.

Great book! The perfect mix of humor for a story that is dark and edgy.

Love this book!!!
Grate book with a grate sense of humor !!
Fun and easy reading. The author descriptions of people and place are so rich that I could mentally picture almost every scene in "mental high definition".
"A Dirty Job" is laugh-out-loud hysterical and a good story.
This is the first book I've read by this author but definitely not the last. The plot was original, the characters likable and even when the plot got a little freaky it was still laugh out loud funny! Loved it!
My favorite book of all time
