Watchers Dean Koontz Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars

A “superior thriller”(Oakland Press) about a man, a dog, and a terrifying threat that could only have come from the imagination of #1 New York Times bestselling author Dean Koontz—nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read.

On his thirty-sixth birthday, Travis Cornell hikes into the foothills of the Santa Ana Mountains. But his path is soon blocked by a bedraggled Golden Retriever who will let him go no further into the dark woods.

That morning, Travis had been desperate to find some happiness in his lonely, seemingly cursed life. What he finds is a dog of alarming intelligence that soon leads him into a relentless storm of mankind’s darkest creation...

As many others have said, Watchers was my first book by Dean Koontz, and I loved it! A splendid, top-notch story of horror, suspense, science fiction, warmth, romance, sadness, redemption, and beauty! I decided to read this book because I rented a VHS of the film version with Cory Haim, and I really enjoyed the movie. It has nothing on this wonderful book, though! As much as I like the movie, IT’S IN DIRE NEED OF A REMAKE!!! Since reading the book, my number one favorite by the author, I’ve read a total of 31 books by Koontz, including his awesome short story collection, Strange Highways, and the first three stories in the Odd Thomas series: Odd Thomas, Forever Odd, and Brother Odd. I have lots of favorites, but Watchers will probably always be at the top of the list!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I read Watchers for the first time in the early 1990s. When I came across it again on my iPad I immediately downloaded it and read it again. It is a perfect novel. Thank you Mr. Koontz!

I read this book in my 20’s; I’m 61 now. That’s how old it is. lol I couldn’t put the book down. I read every chance I could and read it in just a few days; that’s how good it is! I highly recommend it.

My favorite Dean Koontz book! I read this in my 20’s and have read many of his books since then, the publishing date is way before 1987, that must be republishing date because I first read this in the late 70’s.
