Before She Disappeared Lisa Gardner Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars
THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Lisa Gardner, a propulsive thriller featuring an ordinary woman who will stop at nothing to find the missing people that the rest of the world has forgotten
Frankie Elkin is an average middle-aged woman, a recovering alcoholic with more regrets than belongings. But she spends her life doing what no one else will--searching for missing people the world has stopped looking for. When the police have given up, when the public no longer remembers, when the media has never paid attention, Frankie starts looking.
A new case brings her to Mattapan, a Boston neighborhood with a rough reputation. She is searching for Angelique Badeau, a Haitian teenager who vanished from her high school months earlier. Resistance from the Boston PD and the victim's wary family tells Frankie she's on her own--and she soon learns she's asking questions someone doesn't want answered. But Frankie will stop at nothing to discover the truth, even if it means the next person to go missing could be her.

I loved the book! Started it this afternoon and finished it in one sitting! Tons of twists, and never predictable! Cried at the end! So good!!!
I couldn’t stop reading!

I really enjoyed this as a change of pace; some of Gardner’s works were getting a little too intense and or psychotic for me, but this was addictive! Another story with this lead character would be amazing!

Not enough stars! One of the best!
Couldn’t put it down
Read this front to back because it was such a whirlwind of tragic clues about a girl one woman was hellbent on finding in hopes after a decade of chasing missing persons she’d bring someone home alive. In 14 cases she’d cracked on her own using her wit her obsessive compulsive natures that stemmed from years of addiction now channeled into finding missing persons while sober she’d made a grave mistake years prior while drinking and her guilt drove her to being reckless and self destructive but extremely good at doing these cases. After losing someone she loved due to her drinking and this compulsion she had nothing but these cases and if she could just save one person she’d hoped it would help heal the gaping wound left by her loss. In Boston she’s led a wild and dangerous path of clues, frustrating leads that weren’t getting her any closer to figuring out where the girl had gone or why she suddenly finds out the girl is alive and her will to find her will take her into the harrowing streets of deadly crime and activities that threaten not only the girls life but her very own. Incredibly intriguing and heart racing pace of twists and turns trying to figure out how to find this girl and safely get her back home.
I really enjoyed Frankie. It’s nice to have a perspective from a main character who isn’t a member of law enforcement. On that note though, I really hope Frankie and DD cross paths in the future.
The immigrant story line is current and informative and i think she did an excellent job portraying the every day lives of people living in fear of being kicked out of the country.
It’s not a bad book by any means; it’s simply different. I look forward to reading more about Frankie!
Not Gardner’s best work...
Sorry to say this book was a flop 👎.
I was full expecting Lisa’s usually style of writing of keeping you up late with bloodshot eyes from flipping page after intense page, chewing your nails to the nubs and in total suspense but unfortunately no...not even close.
The story dragged on and felt flat, I just couldn’t get into it.
I’m still a fan of Lisa’s so I’m going to blame this stupid pandemic/Covid for this years book.
Fingers crossed for next years 📖🤞.
