Plot had potential. But, too many caricatures rather than real characters.

As with all CJ Box’s Joe Pickett books this one is tops. One of his best. I’d love to see movies made or even a television series. Can’t wait for the next one. Read one and you’re hooked. If you don’t read them, things could get real western real quick. Nate Romanowski might come calling !
  • Good read but disappointed

I'm disappointed that ending leaves us hanging and waiting for part two. Great read and story I thought but I hate when these good authors charge so much for ebook I can't even share and is only part one of an unfinished story. Now I need to wait a year for sequel and pay even more
  • First Box book I haven’t enjoyed...

Slow, plodding, contrived.... some of the plot elements are getting repeated way too often...
  • Another great Joe Pickett novel

  • The Diappeared

Rather disappointed for the first time reading all the books. It was a good read but very short and lacking the usual remarkable story telling. It was like he himself was either getting bored with the storyline, dozed off and suddenly awakened and realized he had to get it done before the publishing deadline. The last few pages summed up the whole mystery but left me severely lacking cohesion in a storytelling way. Not the usual mystery associated with the various characters. Nate was like an afterthought and Joe’s usual analytical style just left him seemingly a disinterested third party. Genuinely disappointed after these years and previous novels. Two stars at the most
