#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A delightfully lighthearted caper . . . [a] fast-moving, entertaining tale.”—Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

A gang of thieves stage a daring heist from a vault deep below Princeton University’s Firestone Library. Their loot is priceless, impossible to resist.
Bruce Cable owns a popular bookstore in the sleepy resort town of Santa Rosa on Camino Island in Florida. He makes his real money, though, as a prominent dealer in rare books. Very few people know that he occasionally dabbles in unsavory ventures.
Mercer Mann is a young novelist with a severe case of writer’s block who has recently been laid off from her teaching position. She is approached by an elegant, mysterious woman working for an even more mysterious company. A generous monetary offer convinces Mercer to go undercover and infiltrate Cable’s circle of literary friends, to get close to the ringleader, to discover his secrets.

But soon Mercer learns far too much, and there’s trouble in paradise—as only John Grisham can deliver it.

Pleasant summer read but ultimately unsurprising. So many opportunities to mix it up and depart from the predictable.
  • Easy fun read

  • Sub par at best

As a fan I have always enjoyed Grisham’s books. This one was a huge disappointment. It took me over a year to read & I should’ve stopped while I had the chance. In my opinion, this was not a shining success.
  • No mountain tops on Camino Island.

A pleasant read albeit one without any real adrenaline. Few surprises and little suspense along the way but a comfortable read. I miss the excitement of his earlier works.

Definitely not Grisham’s best work. Forced myself to finish the book. I found the plodding story uninteresting and felt cheated by the quality of the story , no mystery, no nothing.
  • Calico Island by John Grisham

Storytelling at its best! I’ve come to rely on Mr. Grisham’s knack for the beginning, the middle, and the end-and to keep me intrigued throughout more than 600 pages! Always a good read! Thoroughly enjoyed…

I must not be as "deep" as some of the other reviewers because I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was a quick, engaging read.
  • Another disappointment.
