Ruth Ware is the Agatha Christie of our time? I don’t friggin think so. That was dreamed up by a desperate staff reviewer who drank too much Starbuck’s trying to stay awake after reading this snoozer. This is my second Ruth Ware book. I expect it be my last. Slow, not enough of a story to fill the pages.

I hate giving up on a book but I just couldn’t take it anymore. I didn’t enjoy a single page of this
  • You can skip this one

I hate implying to anyone to skip a book by one of their favorite authors or in their favorite genre, as they might find something or feel something more than I did, but that's the nature of reviews, I suppose. I'm a bit of a suspense/thriller novel junkie and The Lying Game didn't cut it for me in that aspect. The imagery is beautiful and RW truly creates an interesting world for the reader, but it was very easy to understand what the "twist/ending" would be. I was imagining the scenarios as I was reading it and I was correct. Perhaps she just gave too much away or limited the scope of the book to where it was nearly impossible to draw a different conclusion. But, other readers may feel differently about it. Maybe just reframe expectations--a drama, a fiction piece, not a thriller and that will change the level of satisfaction. The novel she wrote after this one, The Death of Mrs. Hathaway, IMO, is much better. I wish I'd paid better attention to the other reviews and just bypassed this one or had started it with different expectations.

I dont quit books but i could not wait to finish this one. Back and fourth over and over. Please tell me what the last line in the book meant. Was Owen not Freyas dad? A waste of my tiny brain. HELP

Not as brilliant as her first two.
  • Not very good

The writing was good, but the subject material is of Mean Girls type.
  • Weak women!

Dull, thought-it-would-never-end book. I don't know how it got so many stars with so many bad reviews.
  • Great Summer Read

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! I read it at the beach while on vacation. I thought it was the perfect combination of Pretty Little Liars and I Know What You Did Last Summer. After I finished reading it, my sister and both parents wanted to read it.
