Essential Python Kevin Vans-Colina Book Review Score: ★★★★★ 5/5 stars
This book will teach you all you need to know to get up and running with the Python Language V3.x. Combining a simple syntax with powerful libraries Python is becoming an increasingly popular language. This book is designed for everyone from beginners to professional programmers looking to learn Python. The book is full of example code and covers all the basics as well as delving into many of the powerful libraries including HTML, databases and producing GUIs. It also teaches how to use Python as both a functional and object oriented language.

User reviews about this book
Very Sloppy Formatting and Editing
It is hard to believe that this book got into print as is. Python is a language that uses formatting (i.e., indenting and spacing) to indicate the scope of action, rather than ending braces, semi-colons, or ending keywords. Yet the code examples in the book have all been left-justified, destroying all the necessary formatting. Many code examples appear to have incomplete editing from some previous version (such as operating on a string “Essential Python 3” and extracting “Programming” from characters [7:]—hint, that string isn’t in the target string.) If you are an experienced programmer, maybe you’ll enjoy the challenge of repairing all the mistakes in this book, but for a learner, go find another source.
And I quote... "“This book is written for Python 3 which is the latest version of Python.”

I'm looking elsewhere.
If Python 2 is of interest it might be worth a look. It does appear to be farely complete.
